Russian legislation provides for a standard child tax deduction, which parents can receive by filling out a 3-personal income tax return. Here are detailed instructions on how to apply for and provide this deduction.

Standard child tax deductions

A standard tax deduction is provided to each parent for the maintenance of a minor child. The deduction is applied as follows:
- First child: 1400 rubles per month
- Second child: 1400 rubles per month
- Third and subsequent children: 3,000 rubles per month
- Disabled children: additional 12,000 rubles per month (for parents and adoptive parents); 6,000 rubles per month (for foster parents and carers)
Please note that the maximum total income of a parent that allows you to use this deduction is limited to 350 thousand rubles per year. After exceeding this threshold, the deduction is terminated.

The procedure for making a standard tax deduction

Collection of documents:
- Completed declaration form 3-Personal income tax (can be downloaded on the website of the Federal Tax Service).
- A copy of the child's birth certificate.
- A document confirming the fact that the child lives with you (a certificate of family composition or an extract from the household book).
- Confirmation of the parent's status (in case of divorce or other changes in marital status).

Filling out the 3-personal income tax declaration:

Download the declaration form on the official website of the Federal Tax Service.
Section 1: Provide general information about you as a taxpayer.
Section 2: Specify the type of tax deduction (code 126 is the standard category of deductions).
Appendix 1: Describe the source of your income and the total amount of income received.
Appendix 5: Specify the amount of the standard child tax deduction.

Prepare a package of documents and send it to the tax office:

- Take the completed declaration along with copies of the documents to the nearest branch of the tax inspectorate.
- You can send documents online through the taxpayer's personal account on the FTS website.

Receiving a personal income tax refund:

After checking your declaration and submitted documents, the tax service will decide on the refund of the overpaid tax. The refund is made by transferring funds to the bank account specified by you.

Following the above instructions, you will be able to successfully apply for a standard tax deduction for your child and refund part of the taxes paid.
